Club infomaton 2013 2014 season

The Club has much pleasure in announcing the appointment of Michael Clark as the new Coach of our Premier Grade team for the 2013 – 14 season. His wealth of coaching experience, skills and knowledge will enable our Premiers to continue to build upon the impressive foundations laid over the past four very successful seasons.

Michael first played cricket for Johnsonville in Wellington under the expert guidance of Bruce Edgar, New Zealand’s top left hand opening batsman of the time and went on to represent Wellington at Primary and Junior Secondary levels before moving to Auckland whom he subsequently represented at Under 17 and Under 19 levels.

He played his club cricket for Birkenhead, made his Premier debut at the age of 16 and  first captained the Birkenhead Premiers at the age of 19, going on to amass more than 13,000 Premier runs including 23 centuries and a highest score of 222* in the years to his retirement in 2002. He was North Harbour and Auckland’s Cricketer of the Year on several occasions during the 1990s. He started coaching during his years of training at Auckland Teachers College and this experience combined with his success at Auckland and representative levels enabled him to coach and play as an overseas professional for six years in the United Kingdom.

Michael represented Auckland at First Class and Second XI levels, his First Class debut occurring in 1991 against Sri Lanka but he played most of his representative cricket for the Auckland Second XI which he captained to two National Championships.

We welcome Michael to the Takapuna District Cricket Club and wish him every success in what we hope will be a most enjoyable and pleasurable tenure.
