Takapuna DCC wins the Auckland Cricket Presidents Major Competition

Takapuna DCC wins the Auckland Cricket Presidents major competition for the first time ever

We did it ! The old boys of Takapuna are the 2016 Auckland President’s Grade Champions.

We have a squad of around 20, hence the higher number of players on the photos.

Takapuna won the toss and decided to bat first. Bar a steady 33 from opener Brendan Smith, Taka had a very poor start by the remaining top order, 67 for 4 at the 17-over (halfway) mark.

But middle order batsmen Rob Jane and Spencer Day recovered the innings at great pace by posting a 115 run partnership. Skipper Rob Jane remaining not out on 57 and Spencer contributing a fabulous 48.

Taka 195 for 8 after their 35 overs. Howick Pakuranga never got into their chase thanks to magnificent bowling from all the bowlers, top wicket takers were Ian Smallburn 2 for 8 of 4 overs and Greg Scott with 5 for 13 of 6 overs.

A great running catch by Rob ter Braak sealed the deal, Howick Pakuranga 80 all out and Takapuna could celebrate a magnificent win.
